Leatherstocking R/C Buzzards
Gilbertsville, New York, USA

The Leatherstocking R/C Buzzards was formed in 2003 by Al Kanser.  The Leatherstocking R/C Buzzards currently have over 29 members. Our mission is to create and foster a love for Radio Controlled Aircraft and Model Building.  Our home field is at the Polo Fields in Gilbertsville, NY and at the request of the owner is open to all AMA members.  With a 125 foot wide runway and 825 foot long carpet of grass there are regular pilot training classes as well as regular events. We think it's the finest flying field in Central NYS.

The Leatherstocking R/C Buzzards once again hosted its annual fly in on July 16-20, 2009 with all proceeds being donated to Catskill Area Hospice.  The event was well attended this year, with some of our modelers traveling from as far away as Florida.  We were visited by AMA District II Vice President Gary Fitch who presented the Oneonta Radio Controlled Flyers a Plaque honoring them as a Ten Year Gold Leader Club. Special Thanks to all of the sponsors, pilots and spectators who attended helping us donate much needed monies to the Catskill Area Hospice.  Gilbertsville-Mt. Upton School students once again supplied some delicious food and beverages to all who attended.

Shown above is Albert Kanser and Les Willett.  Just a few weeks shy of his 86th birthday Les attended the event with his son Alan and showed that he still had what it takes to fly at a giant scale event.

Chris Discano donates a Grupner Glider to two future Buzzards.  The Glider was previously owned by Mr. Dick Wilson.  Both youngsters were very active in our event.  Jonathon (on the left)  and Nathan (in pink) both did the radio ad for the event.  Jonathon tried his hand at announcing on Friday and Saturday.  Nathan was constantly walking around as the event photographer.
